Viagra Packaging will Contain RFID Technology

Counterfeit Viagra has become such a problem that Pfizer Inc. has installed special radio frequency identification tags on all packages of its anti-impotence pill. Pfizer said that the RFID technology is difficult and expensive to duplicate. The drug manufacturer said that ID tags will create barriers "for criminals who might attempt to counterfeit our products." Pfizer also is against importing authentic drugs, but they say the technology is not for that purpose."Pharmacists and wholesalers use specially designed electronic scanners that communicate the code over the Internet to a secure Pfizer Web site" to verify authenticity. Pfizer previously sued a number of Web site operators that sold illegal Viagra.
